This database registers Oriental manuscripts of the Research Library of Gotha. The library harbors one of the largest Oriental manuscript collections in the Federal Republic of Germany comprising about 3,500 codices. It encompasses all relevant branches of Islamic scholarship within a timespan of more than 800 years. Since 2015 the manuscripts have been continuously recorded in an adaption of the database Orient-Digital used by the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz. It is based on a development of the Oriental Institute and the Computer Center of the University of Leipzig.
In a first project stage information from Wilhelm Pertsch´s manuscript catalogues will be recorded in an abbreviated cataloguing template according to guidelines that have been established by the Union Catalogue of Oriental Manuscripts in German Collections. This abbreviated cataloguing template comprises the most important bibliographical information. In the long-run all Oriental manuscripts will be catalogued in detail and presented digitally.
